Department: Intermediate Critical Care

FTE: 0.90
Full Time
Shift: Days

The Intermediate Critical Care (ICC) unit provides an opportunity for nurses to advance their practice by caring for patients who require increased monitoring, specialized interventions, and a higher level of clinical assessment than traditional acute care. The patient population includes diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) and submassive pulmonary embolism (PE) patients who meet established criteria, post-operative parathyroidectomy patients, vascular surgery patients requiring frequent neurovascular and pulse assessments following procedures such as femoral-femoral bypass, femoral-popliteal bypass, and select TEVAR/EVAR procedures, as well as patients requiring hourly ophthalmic medications. As the ICC unit becomes established and its clinical capabilities continue to develop, patient diagnoses and populations will be expanded to include additional higher-acuity patients appropriate for the intermediate level of care, providing nurses with continued opportunities to broaden their clinical experience and expertise.

For nurses interested in expanding their clinical capabilities and progressing toward higher-acuity or critical care practice, ICC provides an ideal environment for professional growth. Nurses have the opportunity to strengthen advanced assessment skills, recognize subtle changes in patient condition, manage increasingly complex clinical situations, and develop greater confidence in clinical decision-making. Whether you are looking to broaden your current practice or build a foundation for future opportunities in critical care, ICC provides a supportive and evolving environment to develop the knowledge, experience, and skills needed for the next step in your nursing career.
