Organization & Team Overview
The suite of Construction and Design Tools (P2, ECAF, Iris, ROCI, etc.) supports nationwide network construction and operations, enabling workflow orchestration, reporting, analytics, and capacity planning. This role is ideal for students interested in program management, portfolio management, delivery, change management, and strategic coordination across technology teams.
Role Description
As a Technical Program & Portfolio Management Co‑Op, you will support program-level planning, portfolio visibility, progress tracking, and cross-team alignment across the ION team’s initiatives. You will assist in organizing complex workstreams, ensuring consistent reporting, assessing risks and dependencies, and helping delivery teams stay aligned with the larger organizational goals. You will also assist with building out Smartsheet dashboards and reports to support a broader understanding of our portfolio commitments
This is not a coding role. Instead, you will learn how large-scale technology initiatives are managed and delivered within an enterprise.
What are some interesting problems the student will work on?
The ION team receives a lot of asks every quarter. It’s always a question of demand versus capacity. How can we use our historical analytics and data from the portfolio process and inform our true capacity for work?
How do we ensure that before a team receives an ask, it has all the relevant/necessary details to inform priority and relevance.
This role will sit at the intersection of business strategy, delivery and stakeholder management. One of the data questions that this co-op can assist with is how often “urgent” requests disrupt planned work (or our Plan of Record).
Where can this student make an impact?
