Typical Day
<p>This position works day-to-day in the CJIS Secure Network Operations Center (SNOC), providing continuous monitoring and operational support for FBI CJIS IT services. A typical shift includes monitoring system health, application availability, and circuit status for CJIS services and wide area network (WAN) connectivity to remote sites across the country. The role requires rapid identification, triage, and escalation of incidents to ensure high availability and compliance with CJIS security and operational requirements.</p>
<p>The SNOC operates 24/7 and supports the CJIS campus through a large, collaborative operations team. Team members follow a modified Agile SAFe methodology to manage operational workflows, incident response, and continuous service improvement. This role works closely with network, system, and application teams to coordinate troubleshooting, document issues, and support restoration efforts, ensuring the stability and reliability of the FBI's CJIS infrastructure at all times.</p>
Tasks
<ul>
<li>Provide on-site/on-duty monitoring personnel where identified, for 24x7x365 services</li>
<li>Create and review network blueprints, including LANs, WANs, and cloud networks, including scalability, performance, and security requirements.</li>
<li>Assess new network hardware and software technologies, provide recommendations for upgrades or replacements based on emerging trends and business needs.</li>
<li>Identify and resolve network performance issues, analyzing network traffic patterns, and optimizing network configurations for optimal efficiency.</li>
<li>Identify potential network vulnerabilities, implementing security protocols, and advising on security best practices to protect sensitive data.</li>
<li>Forecast future network bandwidth needs and identify infrastructure upgrades to accommodate growing demands.</li>
<li>Act as a go-to person for complex network issues, provide technical guidance/training to other IT staff.</li>
<li>Monitor network implementation projects, including configuration, installation, and testing of new network components.</li>
<li>Developing network documentation and training materials for other team members.</li>
<li>Maintain comprehensive documentation in Jira, Confluence, or any other document repository of network configurations, changes, and operational procedures.</li>

<li>Own the full physical security assessment lifecycle --from analysis, design through execution, reporting, and mitigation tracking</li>
<li>Lead comprehensive physical security assessments across varying facility types and geographic regions using desktop and field research</li>
<li>Define and maintain the overall physical security assessment strategy; ensuring methodologies stay current, standards-aware, and consistently applied across infrastructure types and project timelines</li>
<li>Conduct security risk analysis for new and existing infrastructure; identifying vulnerabilities, evaluating physical security factors, and developing risk reduction strategies for unique operating environments</li>
<li>Develop and implement physical security control strategies that balance security requirements against operational and business needs</li>

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills &amp; Experience)

We're looking for computer science or computer/electrical engineering professionals with strong software or hardware design, development, testing or reverse engineering skills to join our team as a Capabilities Development Specialist (CDS). We conduct innovative research and produce hardware and software tools unlike anything in the world to defend the nation.</p>
Qualifications
<p>The qualifications listed are the minimum acceptable to be considered for the position. Degree must be in Computer Science (CS), Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field. Degrees in Information Technology, Information Systems, Information Security, Networking (Systems Administration), Information Assurance, or Cybersecurity may be considered relevant if the programs contain, at minimum, a concentration of courses in the following foundational CS areas: algorithms; computer architecture (not network architecture); programming methodologies and languages; data structures; logic and computation; and upper-level mathematics (for example, calculus, discrete mathematics). Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following: engineering hardware or software over their lifecycle (i.e., requirements analysis, design, development, implementation, testing, integration, deployment/installation, and maintenance), programming, vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, computer forensics, or systems engineering. Completion of military training in a relevant area such as JCAC (Joint Cyber Analysis course) will be considered towards the relevant experience requirement (i.e., 24-week JCAC course will count as 6 months of experience). FULL PERFORMANCE Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 1 year of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree and no experience. An Associate's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position.
